Postems on FreeBMD (England and Wales)

FreeBMD is an ongoing project to transcribe civil registration indexes of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed indexes. The result of one of my index searches looked like this:

I clicked 'Info' to add a Postem.
In this case I could have added a Postem by clicking either 'Info' or the envelope icon; but the envelope icon only appears if someone has already created a Postem for this entry.

In the Postem I said, 'Contact Judy at (I quoted an email address that will be valid long-term)'. To my surprise and delight, someone has just contacted me as a result of my Postem! Bertha OAKLEY was her great-aunt.

Bertha's grandfather (Benjamin PEACOCK) and my great-grandmother (Mary HUDSON nee PEACOCK) were brother and sister.

FreeBMD is a great site, and I love it even more now that it has produced this unexpected bonus!

  1. Since I wrote this, I have been contacted by a second 'new relative' via another Postem. If you have used FreeBMD, I urge you to go back and add Postems to the entries for your family. Be sure to include an email address that will be valid long-term (such as a free Gmail address with Google).
